Pope Nicholas V founded the Vatican Library in 1450. Over the years, contributions by top scholars continually increased the Library’s collection of books and illuminated manuscripts, while great artists of the Classical and Renaissance periods added their mastery to the hallways, ceilings and furniture of the building.
