My name is Susan, and as I'm sure it is evident, I am not a poet by any stretch of the imagination. Prior to the writing of "Wondrous Spirits", I had never even entertained the notion of writing anything, especially poetry.
To date I have written 6 poems and all have been based on actual events I have now come to believe are Blessings.
Wondrous Spirits, was the 1st of many blessings that followed, & have allowed me to grow in knowledge (and lessen any fears) of the spiritual path of Light that God has planned for me.
For some, this will not seem out of the ordinary, but to others I will be seen as being in dire need of serious psychological care.
The inspiration for this poem came as a vision of the largest and most beautiful white birds I have ever seen. As I looked out the window to my backyard (something I rarely did), 4 of these Blessed creatures of God appeared. I was a little afraid but instantly mesmerized (that's the only way I know to describe it). They began from one end of my fenced in yard and slowly walked across to the other side, and in an instant were gone. As this occured I somehow knew my mother was being called home to her "real home", and her journey would be blessed and welcomed. In essence, the Angels would ease her passage. Immediately after, my neighbor called on the phone and in amazement, she asked if I had seen "the Birds". This woman was very knowledgeable about nature and an avid bird watcher, however she stated that she too had never seen anything like them. To date, I'm not sure what kind of birds they were/are, since I and others have not been able to identify them.
Shortly after the Blessing and my mother's passing, I awoke in the middle of the night with these simple words describing the experience, and I knew I had to get up and write them down.
Thank you for this opportunity.
Quietly and suddenly like the wind they appear,
as graceful white creatures they appear, very near.
With long tall necks & legs so high, the reason they're here does so mystify.
One, two, three, four.., I wait & watch, but there are no more. As quickly as they do appear, their enchanting beauty dispels any fear.
Across the yard so gracefully slow, wings outstretched until they flow.
Atop brilliant white feathers nestles a glow, & yet, why they're here,
I'm not sure I want to know.
With unspoken word & a sense to behold, their reason for being has yet to be told.
As I watch with wonder, a message becomes clear, they've come to welcome, someone very dear.
Like Saintly guards they will open the gate,
to bless the trip thus fulfilling our fate.
As swiftly they come & swiftly they go, the intent is clear,
from the comfort I now know.
The miracle is real & Heaven... is so.
