St. Paul Historical Souvenir Apostle Spoons. Wonderfully unique Catholic gifts and Vatican City souvenirs for yourself or a loved one!

St. Paul was one of the most important leaders of early Christianity and became famous as a missionary. His letters (called epistles) to his followers form a significant part of the New Testament. Paul was so important that he was sometimes referred to as an Apostle, though he was not one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ. In sacred art St. Paul is usally depicted with a sword, as shown in his image on this Apostle spoon.

Apostle spoons received their name because each is surmounted by a small figure of one of the Apostles bearing the symbol associated with him. They were made in England in great numbers until commonwealth times (1654). A favorite christening gift in Tudor and early Stuart times. The earliest English Apostle spoons were made between 1460-75.

Spoon is 6 1/2" long, made of pewter.

Comes with St. Peter Postcard and Informative Certificate.
