Pulcinella is a Neapolitan mask originating in Campania, southern Italy.
The nose has the form of a beak which ancients called "pullus gallinaceus". The etymology of the word Pulcinella derives from the word "Pulliciniello" that means pulcino or chick.
Pulcinella can be both stupid and astute, bold and cowardly and has a lively expressiveness typical of Neapolitans people.
The costume consists of a white coat with a belt, a long hat and a black mask.
