Where is the Pizza from?
(da dove viene la pizza)
Do you know the goddess of love, lady Venus? The mithology says that she was the first one who made the first pizza in the History. Let me tell you how it happen.
She was married with Mr.Vulcan, the faber of the Ancient Gods. One day
he moved with his lady Venus to the top of the Vesuvio where he was
enjoying the hot temperature of the vulcan to work better the metal for
his creations. Venus, as everybody knows, she's never been what you call today a "nun", and meanwhile Vulcan was working hard in the hot Vesuvio, she used to spend her time entertaining, in some very friendly way, some of her new occasional friends.
But one morning Vulcan get back from work before than usual, and he was
hungry, very hungry... So Venus, that still didn't have prepared nothing for the lunch of her jealous man, to avoid that he could become
suspiciuos, she had an idea: she took some dough with whom she's used to make the bread. She made of it a thin slice and she dressed it puttin on the top some oil of olive along with some vegetables, tossing with some goat milk and then cooked it all on an hot stone of the Vesuvio. So, the husband was happy, Venus avoid a divorce and the first Pizza was born!
But we have also some other news from the past about the origin of
Pizza, like the Latin Poet Virgilio (I Century AD), where in his
masterpiece "Eneide" writes about this slice of "farro" bread with on
the top sauces and meats (farro was the most famous cereal of romans
people, the progenitore of our actual grain).
And also another Latin poet , Mr. Orazio speaks in his writing about the "Picea", the latin word for Pizza.
Even the Egiptyans had an important role in the development of the Pizza because they discovered the yeast, one of the most important ingredient that made the difference from the hard "schiacciate di cereali" (cereal smashed) and the actual soft Pizza.
But only starting from the 1700 in Naples we have the first news of
Pizzas with on the top the new vegetable from the America, the Tomato,
the aromatic basil and some cheese, like the mozzarella di bufala:
finally the modern Pizza was born.
Could you imagine all this mess was behind a just simple Pizza that you
bites in few seconds with your friends?
