Authentic in design and details! Hand-crafted and hand-painted! (5 1/2" tall)
In Roman times there were three main types of standard. The eagle (aquila) was the standard of the whole legion. The eagle never left camp unless the whole legion set out and the first cohort guarded it. During the time of Caesar, these eagle standards were made of silver and gold.
The body defense of scales is called a lorica plumata because the pine scales resenble feathers. He wore leather upper arm and kilt defenses for protection over a tunic.
Although eagle bearers were usually bare headed, it might have been expected for them to wear a helmet in combat.
His weapons were a gladius sword and dagger.
Animal skins were worn over the helmet with bearskins being popular with legionaries and feline pelts with Praetorians. They carried the eagle standard (aquila)
and a small round shield for protection.
